Berber rug

Berber rugs are handwoven rugs made by the Berber people, who lived in North Africa and the Sahara during the Stone Age. Rugs are available in traditional and modern designs, with a variety of knot patterns, colors, and fabric constructions.

Berber is also known as a “loop rug.” This is because the fibers consist of short, thick loops woven back and forth, creating a characteristic, dense appearance. Some consider Berber outdated, but it is regarded as one of the oldest and most durable types of rugs.

Nomadic tribes are constantly on the move and therefore need to be able to get by with only the essential utensils. That is why they designed the Berber rug.

Berber rugs are hand-knotted wool rugs with an especially high pile, allowing nomads to use them as seating or beds. At the same time, like any classic rug, Berber rugs can be folded or rolled, making them easy to transport. Another characteristic of Berber rugs is their simple design, usually without decorative elements. This emphasizes the functionality and authentic natural materials used to make these rugs.

Our Berber rugs are hand-knotted in India from our own sheep’s wool and then undergo strict quality control at our warehouse in Hamburg.
